About QSA

History: Carl Hampson – Head Coach, QSA.

Coaching & Management

- Appointed as a school and boarder prefect and matriculated in 2002.

- At age 18, I became a licensed coach and began coaching at Westville Country Club and Glenwood High School, Durban, South Africa.

- Moved to Australia in 2003 and began coaching league players and teams at Labrador Squash Club on the Gold Coast.

- In 2004, I coached in a role as Head Coach at both Acacia Ridge and Hibiscus squash centres in Brisbane until September 2006. My primary focus at the time was junior development where I grew Hibiscus junior membership from 3 juniors to 30.

- In 2005, I continued coaching at both Acacia Ridge and Hibiscus on a full time basis.

- In 2006, I was assistant coach under Peter Edwards at Peter Edwards Squash School in Leeds, England. I was extensively involved in his junior development and junior high performance programmes.

- I continued coaching at the Peter Edwards Squash School on a part time basis through 2007 while coaching and managing the U19 Natal Squash Team at the South African state titles in Cape Town in July. I was then selected as head coach for the Glenwood High School (South Africa) U16 squash team. I coached and managed Glenwood High School’s first team during the South African Top Schools Championships.

- In 2008, I coached the Natal U19 junior men’s squash team, Glenwood 1st squash team and Glenwood U16 squash team conjointly. I was selected as the head coach of the Natal Men’s team in July.

- My role as a coach at Glenwood during 2007 and 2008 involved team, fixture and transport management on a daily basis as well as organising and administering squash camps for the local juniors.

- Since mid 2008 to the current day, I have been coaching juniors and fixture players out of Acacia Ridge and Holland Park squash courts, all well as establishing Queensland Squash Academy.

Squash has always been my passion, but since I have been exposed to coaching, I definitely feel this is where my true passion lies. I currently have recognized national coaching qualifications in both South Africa and Australia and have considerable experience coaching as a head coach. I thoroughly enjoy coaching and management and wish to use my current platform to further promote the game of squash.
