Squash 4 Beginners

The reality is that squash is a game for people who like fast, intense, total-body sports.

A typical game of squash requires two players with a racket each, a court, and a ball, and if you are just starting out, some patience.

The aim of the game is to score more points, and therefore games (or 'sets' in tennis) than your partner.

Is it for you?

Squash is an exclusively indoor sport, so light and unfavourable weather conditions do not affect playing conditions. You would typically require a squash partner, but many squash clubs offer friendly tournaments where you can meet and compete against other players of similar levels. Squash is not for the faint hearted. Forbes magazine rates squash as one of the fittest sports on the planet. It's fast, furious and intense! If you prefer something more polite, perhaps try tennis.

Benefits:

Squash will offer you cardiovascular fitness and endurance. A good 30 minute match will have you running, leaping and reaching for the ball, and will leave you feeling like you have used most muscles in your body. Your leg and buttock strength will improve from the direction changes and lunges, and you find greater flexibility and strength in your core from twisting and turning. Some participants also find great relief of stress from squash as you can whack the ball with everything you have, but not have to go miles to fetch it!
